World Mental Health Day
Mental health problems can affect anyone, at any time, but as 10 October is World Mental Health Day we thought this would be an appropriate time to share with you what the Education Cubed are doing to support good mental health across our teams.
Earlier in the year, we set up our Wellness Committee. A group of people who are tasked with considering what Cubed can do to encourage good mental health. Early projects included development of our Time to Chance Action Plan, which was approved and became our Employer Pledge, the actions on which we have started implementing, such as:
- A Slack channel dedicated to finding and sharing ideas for beating stress and staying well
- A short survey sent out a regular intervals that invites people to share how they are feeling and make suggestions for support or help that they need
- Wellness Actions Plans are now part of our one-to-ones, providing an opportunity for managers to discuss with each team member what support they need to ensure good mental health.
Being aware of mental health has been particularly important through this current pandemic, especially with people working from home and in ways that they are not used to. Communication has been a key aspect of our action plan – from daily team calls where we talk about what people are working on and how they are coping with their workloads, to regular quizzes and challenges that allow us to still have fun together.
Importantly, we are fostering a culture where people are comfortable talking about their mental health and understand that there are no judgements, just support.

And finally, in true Cubed style, Cubed have come up with a unique way to celebrate the day – as it’s a surprise I can’t share it with you just yet. Watch this space…..
